I have posted a similar question before, What is the best FUEL ADDITIVE for Northern Michigan climate. I have had no problems yet but I don't want to find out what gelled fuel systems are like. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. :-laf :-laf

Wally world carries Power Service, I ve never heard anyone complain about that and it's easy to get. I use Cen-Pe-Co brand atomic fuel additive. It works good for me.

Here in this part of Alaska everybody I have talked to uses "Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement". They also carry another product in their rigs from the same company called "911" for severe water problems. Many of the stations that sell Diesel up here don't sell enough to keep it fresh. They may still have summer fuel on hand well into the winter months. I don't leave home without it.

I have used the power service... had no problems. The last 5 years I used Howe's lubricator,,, recommended by many 'big rig drivers', then this last fall I have switched to Stanadyne performance formula. They claim that it beats howe's hands down in all regards, lubricity, gel protection, cetane booster and many other things, I love it!!! The main thing is to get an additive that contains NO alcohol,,, they say it is hard on the fuel system,,, too dry. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the hijack:

Is there something I can add, once a year or so, to remove any traces of water that might be there?

In a good running engine, it's hard to detect a noticable efect of a additive aside from the none gelling. A couple of years ago when I bought a 2000 VW TDI Diesel, the car would start hard and run rough for a few seconds and was terrible starting that first winter. After resetting the engine and I pump timming, there was little improvement. The car only had 54K on it. For the heck of of it, I started useing basic Stanidyne fuel additive. By the time the bottle was empty, the car was starting great! This morning, after a couple glow plug cycles, the car started right up with -18F out side! These cars don't come equiped with block heaters. I'm sold on the injector cleaning effects of Stanidyne.

This brings me to a subject that kind of ticks me off. I put this in a new post on Why did Bosch put a turd of a pump like the VP 44 on the Cummins? :(
