Hey guys,

I need some input from people who know and love their trucks as much as i do. I want to know everyones views on diesel additives such as Power Service, Silo, Sea Foam etc. Do you think they make your truck run better? Do you think additives save injector pumps from water/bad fuel? Do you think they improve milage? I dont want a brand war going on here. I just need to know if you are an additive supporter in general. I have an ongoin debate (friendly of course) with a buddy of mine. We would like some outside opinions

thanks guys

Amanda

I dumped additive into my tank before driving off the lot, and in 78K I've added every fill-up. I've tried Red Line, Power Service, Howes, and am now using Stanadyne. Power Service is less expensive, easy to access, and very popular.

I use it to provide lubricity to the injection pump, and I do think it does. I don't live in a cold climate so anti-gelling isn't important for me.

No claims on mileage, etc. Never heard of Sea Foam or Silo, and don't recall anyone on this site mentioning them, so I'd be suspicious of those.

Do a search and you'll have plenty of reading.

Welcome to the TDR, and update your profile with your truck info so others will be able to better help if you have future questions.

thanks

thanks for the input, and i know TONS about all these products, I am just wondering how others felt. I have my own opinion formed and have for years. I was just curious about others thoughts.

Sea Foam has been around forever. It is more known for additive for small engines and gasoline motors, but actually works well for diesels. Silo, is put out in texas, and is a favorite with the truck drivers. It treats more gallons per bottle and it a good overall additive.

thanks guys keep em Cummin:D

I only use additives in winter for anti-gel since I use straight #2 year round. Currently 14 diesel tractors and 4 trucks with this method and many others over the years with no problems, the rest of the machine usually wears out before the engine.

I use whatever is on sale, usually Power Service or Howe's.

If I had a 24 valve I'd probably use additives all the time though.

well, I use howe's on a regular basis, but for extreme cold i use fppf. both work fine, but fppf, kept me from gelling in -60 degree weather. Ian:D

I use 'em most of the time. Makes me feel better about my LP. ;) Which, by the way, is over 35,000 miles old now.

Sometimes I miss a tank, never notice a difference.

I've been using power service since new. About $10. 50 at wallyworld, treats 300 gallons. Still on my original lift pump.

It's Siloo and it's made by CRC products and carried at most NAPA stores. The CRC website really doesn't have much for specs on the stuff from what I could find. They also sell stuff under the CRC branding.

Most additives do usually work. I dump in 8 onces of power service once a month.

Buying fuel from the bussiest fuel station is the smart thing to do. Never had a problem with moisture or clogged filters yet.

I use Lubrication Engineers DCI 2400. Been working fine for the last 24k miles. I need the anti gel in the winter, and lubricity year round.

Well I do love this old truck, and yes I use fuel additives and I also think it helps. I have been using them since I bought it new, I use the AMSOIL fuel conditioner and the cetane boost. I have not had a fuel related problem and hopefully never will. The truck always get the attention of the people at the EPA check station, they always comment on how small the readings are. And when I pull the trailer, I can tell the cetane helps, with power and mileage. It isn't alot of cost to add, and I feel better about it. This like oil brand is very subjective, there isn't any clear cut answers, just people doing what they feel best for them.

I use Power Service Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost in the summer and the regular white bottle stuff in the winter to prevent gelling.

I also use the Diesel 911 once in awhile to get rid of any water in the tank since the other two products dont do much for that.

Just a note to anyone contemplating using the Power Service 911.

Make sure you use the Diesel 911. The gasoline 911 that is more readily available can damage your injection pump.

Klenger--you pay 10. 50 at Wallyworld?? I pay 17 bucks plus at our wally world for the same thing. I am so sick and tired of living in this yuppie, overpriced squishhead city. 2057 days 27 minutes till I retire then we are outa here!

Have a nice day. :)

Here the same size bottle is $8. 99 at any Farm store.

TOO MUCH!!!!

Man alive you fellas are payin too much for your Power Service. I work at Carquest autoparts and our walk-in price is like 7 bucks.

Our Wal-mart is high though, it is ever bit of 10 dollars. No matter what you are payin though, it is worth it.

I thank y'all for your input. I sell the hell outta Power Service, and the Crc products, and I have had nothin but good feedback. I use it in my first gen, and my 24v. I nicknamed power Sevice the injector pump saver, because I have had so many customer testimonys swear too it. The way I look at it, if you feel like you spent your money well, it is worth it.

PowerService is $10. 56 a gallon in the Canton, GA Walmart. Can I do better? The Co-Op was eleven something last time I looked.

If it is available in you're area Id recomend FPPF's total power. Here in minnesota it is winter 9 months a year. Total power adds lubricity, is an anti-gel, and raises the cetane slightly. Oh and no problems yet.

In Accessories Engine/Transmission there is a CUMMINS Corporate reply to a lp question that is very interesting vis a vis additives. Good reading.
