Truck was left in a parking lot while I went in for a doctor app. When I came back out there was a large dent in driver door. I admit I was close to the truck next to me but this was the only spot left and they were over the line into the spot were I was parking. Really aggravating but I guess some people are just jerks! Anyway long story short the truck started missing a few days later, could really tell it at idle and now starting to detect it at speed. When I went to fuel up about five days after the door incident I discovered the fuel cap was off. Pulled the tank last night and what was left in tank doesn't look good, extremely cloudy and smells like gas, also some brown liquid floating around. I have been working on diesel engines a number of years but this is my first time with a common rail system. From what I have been reading I know I will be replacing all the injectors. I am wondering about the injection pump and rail also. They may be all right for now, but I am concerned about potential failure down the road from whatever has been through them. Any thoughts and all advice will be greatly appreciated! I know this isn't going to be cheap!

Do you have "comprehensive coverage" on your auto insurance? You could file a claim for vandalism. Keep a sample of the fuel in the tank as evidence along with a picture of the dent in the door. Write it up. Just a thought. May help you with the repair expenses. Get a locking fuel cap and a fuel door lock. That keeps the "honest people", honest. Sorry to hear about your issue with other folks damaging your truck. I got a locking fuel cap as soon as I started driving "New Ugly" into town. GregH

That really sucks! If the insurance route doesn't pan out, I would probably try just cleaning everything out the best I could and running some Power Service 911 through the system. A small amount of gas shouldn't cause too much of a problem, but the brown liquid (probably aqueous) is the main concern.

This happened to us last fall - we got a load of bad fuel at the filling station. The entire fuel system needed to be replaced. We have USAA auto insurance, they covered the $14,000 repair, minus our $100 deductible. If my link that I'm trying to attach doesn't work - it is under 6. 7 forum, as 'bad fuel, dealer said entire system needs replaced' dated Oct, 2009.

Oh Yeah, meant to say that I'm sorry to hear someone hit your vehicle and then deemed it necessary to mess with your fuel as well. I don't understand how some people can be so nasty to someone else - but nothing surprises me anymore

Take a sample 1/2 gallon to local refinery, they will test it at NO charge, they will also supply you with the Proper documents for the insurance Claim. I here ya on the Door dent, This may make You feel Better. Six Years ago I Park as far from the CUB food entrance as possible, this Women pull Up next to Me when I was still in the Cab, She Open Her door and WAMED right in my rider side,it cost-ed $550. 00 to repair, When I existed the Cab to examine the dent She tried to run into CUB,Well it was the drivers Mother-in-law that opened the door and hit my truck,She was from FL, So they belittle the matter and seamed profanity at me until the Blaine Police arrived, then they started to hassle him,So the officer asked for IDs,Now this gets good Grandma form FL had a outstanding Body Warrant for some traffic violation when she lived here,So the officer return My ID and asked Grandma to put her hands behind her back, she was being arrested on that Warrant, it was Friday Late afternoon,So I think she spent the weekend in Anoka county jail. It did not stop here they refused to pay for the dent and would not give their Insurance Info to the Blaine Police, They finally charged them W/O having insurance then they gave the info to the police,The insurance company paid for the dent. We call this Grandma go's to jail stroy.

It kills me to hear about stuff like this. I'm really sorry this happened... Parking lots make people stupider and meaner...

All of the parking lots in my neck of the woods are designed for Toyota Prius or MB Fortwo size vehicles.

That is one reason I park the truck at home and use a POS Corolla (its actually in great shape, but I call it a POS because of what it is... ) as my daily driver.

Seems like when ever I drive the truck to the store, some yahoo has to park right next to me even though I'm a 1/4 mile from the entrance. I always take two spots and my fear is that will make the stupid/mean people even stupider and meaner and do something like you described...

Thanks for the reminder to get a locking gas cap.

Good luck with getting yours repaired.

I remember years ago we used to wire a second ignition coil to battery and output center post to the body. A shocking experience but with all the electronics now probably not a good idea or somebody accidentally touched the thing and stop their pacemaker!!! Old coils equal 40,000 volts get your attention in auto shop in school wired to metal folding chairs ahhhh kids!!!

Does the Dr's office have security cameras on the parking lot? If so, they may be able to review the tapes and provide evidence as to the damage, and hopefully identification on the vehicle next to you.
