Last night as i was headed out of town for the last weekend of elk season my 93 250 had no top end. it idled for about 30 min. and then when i got on asphalt i could only drive at low rpm and even that could sputter. when i floored it lots of white smoke out the tail pipe but my coolant level is fine. i pulled the fuel filter and have a friend picking up one now. anything else to look for and why the white smoke?

thanks

Rob

well a new filter seems to have done the trick. still blowing more white smoke than i think is good but engine is not hot yet. one other thing i noticed is that when i tried to pump lever on the lift pump no fuel came out so i just filled the filter and it started fine. do i need to replace pump?
the elk aren't going to wait so hopefully all is well.

Sounds like you may need , but I do not see too many of the 1st gens , but before you buy one do a fuel pressure test , the lift pump moves fuel , but all fuel injected engs. diesel or gas make pressure by restricting the return to tank , in the 2nd gens it called an overflow valve .
