After I installed a fass pump on my 96 12v I have had a problem that appeared to be the factory draw tube being cracked about 1/2 way down in the tank. When the tank gets around 1/2 full the truck acts like it is runing out of fuel. When going uphill, around a corner or when braking hard sometimes the truck will cut out like it is losing fuel. I dropped the tank and pulled the sender. I couldn't find a leak in the draw tube. Any Ideas anyone?

You are sucking through the stock pick-up? If so they are known to crack and suck air. You can get a draw straw from Vulcan..... I have one but I run into a problem around 1/4 tank or below when braking, or going around a corner as the fuel runs away from the straw.

I made my own 1/2" straw and ran it into the stock strainer @ bottom of the sender. I can run down to near dry without issue. Also check the push lock fitting on top of the sender, a torn o-ring or less than perfect connection easily cause problems.

Does you stock strainer no longer move up and down with the fuel level now? I though about something like that but it would throw off the fuel level senders operation... ... when it works LOL.

I used a 1/2" soft fuel line to a 1/2" ID fitting in the strainer to retain the ability to expand/contract as needed like stock and ran it up to a grommet and passed the soft line through the grommet to the FASS under the bed corner. simple but effective.

In tank leaks are common, but most are caused by restrictive fittings above the tank module. They tend to suck air when the fuel level drops. This is why the factory draw tube shows no sings of leakage, it's not leaking.

The DS1 has no fuel slosh issues and installs in the module. It'll work in any '94-'04 truck. This will pull fuel from at the least the stock height on the tank bottom. And uses the well of fuel above to stop fuel slosh.

As for the module not being able to expand and contract, it does not need to. As the tank is pressed into service and held in place by the straps, the tank does not move very much at the module's location. And the DrawStraw is sized to fit into the new fixed module's height.

The bottom must be fixed for height to prevent the bottom from floating up. It really does happen. Since the float arm is connected to this location.

For the DS2 owners, we will have a retrofit kit available soon that has stopped all fuel slosh issues in our test trucks.

Just a quick update I fixed the problem a while back but didn't take time to let you folks know what I did. It ended up being that the FASS pump with its higher flow than stock sucked the in tank sump dry(it is open at the top but is solid about halfway down). that was the reason why if I shut off the truck for a while it would run again. I fixed it by making a new draw head simular in purpose to a vulcan. I then moved the return for the FASS from the filler tube breather to the sump. I bored ot the factory draw tube a little but left it same besides the new draw head to exit the tank. I will try to post pics some time, but don't hold your breath.

Just remember the fuel cools the VP and if its picking up the same heated fuel its returning wont work well.
