I was looking over my fuel economy figures since new (2003) and I thought it was interesting enough to post. There are two sets of data here: fuel economy for each tank (left axis, upper half of plot) and cost of fuel per gallon (right axis, lower half of plot).

Of particular interest is the linearity of the fuel economy data and the exponential nature of fuel cost. And although the fuel economy line has positive slope, I strongly suspect it has leveled off now (but it'll be some time before that shows up in the fit).

Anyway, interesting to look at, I thought.

Nice curve!

I would say mine goes the opposite was, since in 2010 I bought a commuter and the truck works more than it DD's now.

NICE data...very interesting presentation....wish I could get 19.3 mpg average on my 2005, but hand calc I get a best of 17 mpg, with an average much closer to 15.9.

Yes, I have similar data; however, I haven't put it in graph form. When I purchased our '03 new, I made a spreadsheet and record the date, the fuel station name and location of fill up, number of gallons at each fill up, the truck's mileage at each fill up, price per gallon, total cost for each fill up and the last column is the calculated mpg. I also have a running total of the number of gallons of fuel since the truck was new, the total cost of fuel, and the overall average mpg. I made a similar spreadsheet for my wife's '06 Honda Odyssey.
