I am looking for a IN-LINE FUEL FILTER,to go in-between the fuel tank and the lift pump on my 12 VALVER.

I have recently :( encountered asphaltine in my LIFT PUMP SCREEN  NOT GOOD !!!

Cleaned out the screen and changed the Fuel Filter,Everything is running fine now.

But the Cummins Dealer in MT Clemens,Mi

says that the Sock in the Tank can fall off

letting that stuff get into the screen.

what would be the Best type of filter to install at that location ?

I was looking at a IN-LINE TYPE THAT THE SPEED SHOPS SELL.

What about a SINTERED BRONZE 35 MICRON IN-LINE OR A

PERMA-COOL FUEL/WATER FILTER (2-MICRON FILTER) ?

Any other suggestions out there all you FUEL GUYS ?

THANKS

Fuel Filter

I had an aux fuel filter added by a cummins dealer when I had about 85,000 miles on vehicle, they mounted it to the wheel well and hooked up from fuel tank to filter then to preheater-filter which is what I believe you want to do. After a few months I moved assy mount to fire wall above fender directly in front of driver to allow more access to other components in this same area and works well, I change this filter 3x compared to stock filter and prefilter screen never had problem. I'm using a fleetguard FS1240 + fuel water separator bowl for same filter do not know the item # but I'm sure Fleetguard dealer can point you in right direction. Hope this helps.

You would need a high capacity, low restriction filter. Fleetguard makes a bulk tank filter that flows well even under just gravity. you will have to bush down the threaded fittings on it, and I mounted mine to the underside of the bed using a bed mount bolt. To do this, use heavy wall steel tubing on one end, with a bracket welded to it. There is no mounting bracket built into this filter housing. Maybe there are others, I don't know. I am using Cummins 33074549 housing and FF246 filter between the auxiliary tank and the line to the main tank.

Thanks

I will check with my Cummins Dealer on those items . :)

Racor also makes a nice fuel filter/water separator. I had one mounted on a '95 K300 6. 5L TD HO & it included a nice clear bottom bowl with built-in priming bulb. Also had built-in mounting plate. They're also available with an electric heater option. Replacement filter elements can be bought in 2, 10 or 30 micron sizes. Cheapest price I've seen them for them was used & on eBay Motors' website. New ones are about $110 & filter elements about $17.

Good luck.

Thanks Guys

I will order one of those GOLDEN ROD FILTERS TODAY .

I know i can ALWAYS count on the TDR WEBSITE to come up with the info to accomplish a project Oo.

THANKS AGAIN

I've used a number of Fleetguard filter heads, spec's below. Paid ~$20. 00 and they mount easily using any of the four tapped mounting holes. Depending on which spinon filter is used, they will flow for 1000hp.

Fleetguard 142784S fuel filter heads. These are for the standard Cummins filters such as Fleeguard FF105, FF104, FS1212, FF213,FS1000 etc. They have 1/2 inch female NPT threads on inlet and outlet.

Go for the one with the clear bottom, you will be able to see what ever crap you my wind up with in your fuel and it should have a water drainage in the bottom, you can catch a problem before it becomes a problem if you keep your eyes open. :D

If you drive during cold weather you may want to consider a filter that has an integral fuel heater. The filter element is going to be the point in your fuel system most susceptible to wax accumulation and subsequent restriction/blockage. The typical fuel heater element for this application draws 300 watts (~25 amps).

I've had mine on for five winters in Montana where it gets a little cold sometimes with no heater, -35° no problem. In fact I never run #1 or a blend, just straight #2 with anti-gel additive. This isn't Alaska though.

You're absolutely right. That's why I chose it. Glad you mentioned the drain valve as I completely forgot to include it in my description.
