I have a really stupid question to ask. I had a fuel filter bypass installed a while back. I just bought a replacement Fleetquard Filter. Unfortunately I don't have the directions and am not sure how to do this.

I can't tell if the water separator hose on the bottom of the filter is screwed on or you just pull it off. Where does the rubber O-ring go. Do I need to fill the new filter with fuel before srewing it back on. How hard do you tighten the new filter back on.

Thanks for any assistance.

The water seperator drain and sensor is screwed into the bottom of the filter. You must disconnect the 2 prong water in fuel wiring harness. Easy just find the tab, lift up and pull connectors apart. Turn filter clockwise to loosen-remove filter-drain diesel fuel and unscrew water in fuel sensor from the bottom. Replace the round rubber gasket found at the bottom of the threads on the sensor with the one that you should have got with the new filter and then screw into bottom of new filter. Be careful not to strip threads as the plastic is unforgiving. Reach up under the threads on the bottom of the prime loc housing and remove the old rubber gasket-it will be up against the bottom the the threaded fitting. Replace with new small rectangular shaped gasket (again supplied with new filter) making sure it is up against the flat filter plate. Fill new filter with diesel fuel about 80%. This way as you angle the filter to get it in place to screw in it will not slop all over. Tighten fuel filter as you would your oil filter-hand tight + 1/4 turn. I usually rub some diesel fuel around the gasket on the top of the new fuel filter so it does not go on dry. Reconnect water sensor wiring harness. Truck should start and run rough for a few seconds as the system gets rid of the small amount of air left.

Thanks Bill. I printed it off and will give it a try. Doesn't sound to hard. I was really worried about the two rubber gaskets.
