fuel filter change

Ok, Iv'e done it! I read several posts in the 03 section about fuel filter changes and decided I would give it a try at 8k miles. I really dreaded this chore on my 99, it usually took about an hour, last time I changed the 99 it only took 30 mins! parked with front down hill, FULL tank of fuel, and only had to crack one injector line to get it to fire!



the 03 was a piece of cake. removed old filter, drained water separator, wiped it out, put in new filter, and O ring, "bumped engine 3 times, opened drain to be sure of fuel, bumped one more time and BANG she fired up the first time with no stumble or any other problem! it took about as much time as it took to type the steps above!



I guess with the new injector pump, and mabey the "redesigned" lift pump it made this simple!!! Boy was the filter Black, Iv'e seen picts on the site of dirty filters and mine was just as bad!! are the 03 filters filtering better??? I ran the 99 a year once without changing the filter and it was not as black and dirty as this one!!

I would recomend that anyone with an 03 or 04 truck change the fuel filter early in the maintenance cycle! I can't see that this one would have gone the 15k miles recomended. Oo.

They must of left the fuel tanks out in the desert dust for a year or something. Or maybe the black is the plastic shavings from the fuel tank manufacturing. Either way I would change mine at 7K if I could do it over again.

I changed my fuel filters at 7500 and at 15k both were black the first a little darker than the second but not by much. I guess I'll just do them with the oil and filter changes. Does not take long and gives a little insurance.

I just changed mine today to see what it would look like.



It had 3,200 miles on it, and it was pretty black.
