Picked up a new fuel filter today from Cummins p#FS 19579-E and the design has changed. The former filter had a flat top and the edges were rolled down the sides along the filter media. The top stuck out form the sides about 1/16 of an inch. The filter now has the same flat top but the edges are not rolled down the side it is flat and the edge of the top of the filter sticks out about an 1/8 of an inch. I have the billet filter cap and I had to convince the top of the filter to go into the filter cap, never had to do that before. Used to I just dropped the filter in and tightened the cap. Now I have to cram the filter into the cap and push down on it to get it to tighten up.

For those that still have the oem plastic cap I am not sure how it will fit into the cap or if it will. I asked 4 times if the filter was the correct one and was told yes that they are all the same. Oh and they do not come in a box no more, they are packaged in clear plastic. The bottom of the filter is the same and has not changed. Thought I would give a heads up on this for those that have not seen one yet.

Geno's has some information on this filter. It is the new FG version of the 10 micron filter. Apparently the ends are more environmental friendly???

This is the 10 micron, the 7 is FS19800 I believe. Just wanted to pass along a warning to those with the stock cap that the new filter may not snap into the lid, not sure. Look at the picture on Genos website, the top of the filter has changed and extends outward maybe an 1/8 of an inch, thats what i am talking about. It's like instead of rolling the edge downward they just let it stick out.

I recently bought a couple of the FS19800E (7 micron) - sounds like the same design change as you described. I've got the stock cap - fits fine, but is a little looser in the cap after 'snapping' it in.

Fits fine? Wow I thought it wouldn't being that the old style was loose with the billet cap and the new one is really tight.
