I've read several threads concerning changing the fuel filter and using the ignition bump method to prime the fuel filter canister. I also had a no start condition. I did what the Chrysler manual called a low pressure bleed at the injector pump banjo bolt and started imediately. Everything has been fine since. Most all the threads in response to this type of problem blame a faulty lift pump. Except one in which the owner knew the LP was working and did an air bleed at the drain hose on the filter. My question is , since I hear the buzzing sound of the fuel transfer and recieved fuel at the banjo bolt location on the injector pump does this necessarily mean that the injector pump is drawing fuel instead of recieving fuel from a properly working lift pump? And is the recomendation to replace the lift pump? The tesimony of the person that had the same problem with a good LP raised doubt that the LP is always at fault. Any others that doubt replacing the LP is the "ONLY" solution? Thankyou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bill

Anvil,

Hello and welcome to TDR.

Friend you should fill out your signature so we can see what year rig your dealing with.

Please note we all must monitor our fuel presure as delivered to our injector pump. This is the first step in understanding our systems.

I look at our CTD's as a "pump" feeding a "pump" that feeds a pump... the later being a Cummins 5. 9

You will find a wealth of information here on TDR and we'll all help you.

If you do a search on (LP's) lift pumps you'll have about 6 months of reading (if your wife will let you computer every night) none the less... we will help but, you gotta do a little home work for us.

We are all great guys and gals here and some of the best diesel heads in the world hang out here.

Don't replace your LP until you can see what a monitoring device tells you.

Warm welcome

William

Anvil, if I'm understanding you correctly, it seems your LP is working okay and feeding the inj pump as it shoud (notwithstanding checking the pressure as WTB said above).

And is the recomendation to replace the lift pump?
If it doesn't fill the fuel canister, and provide no fuel to bleed, then yes.

Hope this helps.

Mine would idle at 9-10 psi when I replaced it due to pressure dropping down to 0 within minutes of driving... .

thankyou William,Scott& Rock n Rammer for your help and warm welcome. I'm still learning how to navigate all these options. I'm really not too computer savy. I tried to go back in and simply describe my truck through the edit section. 2001 4wd 3500 stock. Guess I'll learn eventually. Thankyou again, Bill
