I changed my stock DC fuel filter last night and the filter itself had separated into two parts. The filter had about 15 to 18K miles on it.

The separation was basically below the top large plastic diaphram area from the center plastic immediatley above the filter element itself. The center portion that the stud fits up through was intact up to this point and on the element.

A series of questions immediatley came to mind:

Has this happened to anyone before?

Could using Powersource (exact brand name could be wrong) fuel additive contribute to the break down of the plastic area?

Where did any little pieces end up?

Will an Edge Comp box pour too much fuel to the filter and blowing it apart?

As you can tell I'm really scratching my head on this one and very concerned about the impacts. The truck hadn't missed a beat performance wise and I didn't suspect any problems.

I replaced the filter with the new redesigned element with "open baffles" in the top of the large plastic area of the filter. Was this the cause for the redesign.

Man oh man what's going on... .....

Any clues are appreciated.

No, it hasn't happend to me, yet.

Dunno about the additive

Where'd the little pieces go? Next stop VP-44 (injector pump) Not a good thing.

No, the Comp box doesn't contribute to fuel flow to the filter, fuel fetchin' is the lift and/or pusher pumps job.

Later, Rob
