yeah, my first time. i've done it a bunch of times on my old '85 6. 2 suburban, but it sounds like this one might be a little more persnickity. oh, and i don't quite have my factory manual yet either. anything in particular i should know? is there an old thread that would be real useful?

It's not too bad. Just give yourself some time. 1 hour should be plenty for the first time.

1 drain the filter.

2 use 9/16" wrench to back off the nut on the top of the filter housing. Wiggling the housing while doing this helps.

3 (this is the tricky part) move the filter and housing (dont remove the filter yet) as one unit to the battery area. I pull mine up between the battery and the intake pipe. I have ABS brakes, yours might be different. It's a tight fit, and you'll probibally scratch the intake pipe, but it does fit.

4 remove filter and gaskets/O rings from the housing.

5 reinstall filter, gaskets and O ring (I put engine oil on the rubber before putting them on) into the housing.

6 push filter housing down between the battery and intake pipe, snake it back to the bracket, and bolt it up.

7 I dont bolt it up tight until I have some fuel in there. Push plunger while it's still a little loose until fuel comes out, then tighten it up.

8 I've found that no matter how much you push that %#@& plunger, you'll still have to crank it a LOT to make it start.

Actually, sometimes I have to go out and push the plunger a few more times before it does. Consider this "normal".
