My oil sample

short of adding additional filter set-ups what manufacturer offers the smallest micron filtration for 2007 stock replacement

I have an "03" and am using a Baldwin PF7977 rated at 5 microns.
The "03" OEM stock filter was rated at 10 microns.
I think your "07" is the same but not sure.

OEM was 10 mic, but they changed to 7 mic. Don't recall what year the switch occurred, but it was long ago. Be careful with any non stock filter, iirc the Baldwin has no water separation where the OEM elements do. The best bet is to add additional filtration. As nice as it would be, there is no magic bullet drop in element for the stock canister.

The switch occurred around 04 I think.

PF7977 from Baldwin, or the Hastings version, is the best there is.

If you have a 5.9, why not add an additional secondary filter like a Glacier setup? I run the stock 7 micron in the stock housing and a large 2 micron (not absolute) on the secondary. Added filtration for the money is a lot cheaper than shortened life on injectors. I have 94,000 on my 2007, 5.9 with the added filtration for 80,000 of those miles. So far, so good. Time will tell.

Originally i was using a racor filter but the filter store I was using stopped carrying the brand so I went with the oem housing off a 2010,using the 13+ element. It was easy enough to mount it to the cylinder head where the APPS would mount on the early common rails.I got a bit carried away stocking up on the elments.I have enough to last a couple lifetimes.

Correction on the No water separation on the Baldwin. The description on the Baldwin at FleetFilter on line is "Fuel/Water Separator Element"

DClark, you are correct, thanks for setting the record straight. I probably mixed it up the AFE "3 micron" from a few years ago that didn't have water separation. The Baldwin has the inflated dirt holding capacity, which in the scheme of things doesn't matter (unless their other numbers are skewed as well).

I've used the Baldwin filter every time I've done my own service, and whatever the dealer has installed the rest of the time. I carry a spare filter all the time now that higher % biofuel seems to be everywhere. I've made emergency changes during trips a couple of times because of clogged filter from the bio fuel.
