Am about a millimeter away from buying a '93
1 ton. Have a question about stock fuel filtering setup. Obviously there is a secondary type cannister filter just before the injector pump but is there any primary setup and especially any sort of water separator?

On mine, the fuel filter before the pump has an electric probe theat looks for water, and fires an alarm if it sees any. It also has a little drain spigot to release it maually if detected. Never had any problems with it myself. No seperator or prefilter other than that, that I know of, on my 93 W350. Alan...

Now that you mention it I think I did see a "water in fuel" light on the dash???? that probably is linked to this alarm???
Owner also mentioned that he thought there was a fuel pump inside the tank that had some sort of sediment filter integrated. ????
Just want to be extra safe. Old Ford pumps are cheap, these apparently are not.
 
Should have one filter, about 12" behind the pump. Has 2 wires coming out the bottom that are for water detection. That unscrews then the filter unscrews. That filter is the only one I know about.
I'm sure the pump in the tank has a sediment screen but that is not accessable.

I have a Fleetguard FS 1240 setup mounted on my firewall. It connects BETWEEN the transfer pump and the tank. It has a plastic bowl on the bottom so you can see if you get dirty. I also installed Fleetguards suction guage to show if it is clogged. So far about 30,000 mi. on clean fuel seems to work
