This filter number has changed according to Cummins. It is now Fleetguard FS19579. I picked up 2 of them yesterday at Cummins in Dallas for ~ $11 each

I've gotr another thread going about fuel filters too. Apparently the local Cummins shop sold me '99 filters instead of '00-01 filters. This is my first change on this truck, so I didn't realize they were the wrong ones till I took the old one out. Can I take the gasket from the '99 and use it temporarily to get my truck running? It will hold the filter cap up apoprox 1/8". Will it still alow the filter to work? It may not be seated all the way in the bottom of the housing. Thanks, Tom.

Tom,

You should be able to reuse your gasket in a pinch if it didn't get torn up taking it off. I just changed my filter this afternoon and reused the gasket, no leaks. It was kind of cold and windy, I was in a hurry. I did clean it up and put some clean oil on the o-ring. My filter was very dirty at 8900 miles. Seems a little quieter after the change.

NAPA sells the filter for the 2001. It is number 3585 and it is around $12. 00. When you take it out of the box and look at it is say Stratapour(sp?) on it.

Dave D, At 10,600 mi. , the o-ring was in good shape, but there was no way I could tighten the cap and get the o-ring to stay where it was suppose to. I finally took the flat o-ring from the '99 filter and stretched it onto the cap. It didn't leak and the truck ran fine. I try some of the truck stops in the Baltimore area tomorrow to see if I can track the right filter down. Cummins does have 24 hr. emergency service, although I not sure this would be considered an emrgency. But, if TA in Jessup doesn't have one, I'll be giving them a call. BTW, I just e-mailed you about meeting at the Golden Corral next Sat. Look good for me.
