I am wanting to put a fuel flow gauge in my Ram. I would like to have one that records fuel used over a period of time. First, has anyone done this and have recomendations.

I found one in a marine catalog, but I found some info how on diesels, some fuel pumped through the system is returned to the tank. This would screw up the readings. Does Cummins do this. I found a unit that you put one sensor on the line to the engine and one sensor on the return like and it keeps track of both and displays the net result. It is expensine, I have to but two sensors and still buy a gauge.

Does anyone have knowledge about how the fuel flows and if this is correct on a Cummins.

Thanks

Mark

Yep, that's right

You're correct, there is a return line from the injector pump to the fuel tank. That's how it's cooled. Your lift pump pushes more fuel to the injector pump than is needed to keep 'er runnin'. The extra fuel and some heat is returned to the tank.

Mark, I looked into it and one is available for diesels with two senders, marine use, about $800. http://www.measureanything.com/products/AU4127/datasheet_fuel_flow_systems_diesel.asp It seems like a very accurate unit with all kinds of different programable variables built in like current flow, amount used, time to empty etc. I would love to have one but the price just isn't right. Might have to wait for the Chinese to copy it, a pocket calculator is probably more complex.
