Question about recall's

I'm having problems with my fuel gage dropping to empty any time I get below 1/2 full. It doesn't do it all the time but intermittently. Have 40k on my 98 3500 4x4
with 12 valves. Previously had this problem with both the oil pressure and the fuel gages
and had a "reflash" while still under warranty. It seemed to fix the problem until recently when the fuel started acting up again. Anyone have any suggestions or previous experience with this problem?

The sending unit in the tank is probably the problem. These things are recurring PITA. Changing one of them is not a lot of fun. When I did mine I raised the front of the bed high enuff to allow me to work. If you do that make sure that it's supported well or it might act like a mouse trap with you being the mouse. Other folks have dropped the tank. That requires a helper and a mostly empty tank. I think a dealer just hoists up the whole bed to get the clearance. Good luck.

Joe G. is probably right. I'm on my third sender (162,000 mi. ). Dealer did the job for around $120 best I remember.

My dealer (Razzari Dodge) quoted me $486 to replace sending unit for my '97 3500 with only 30K miles. $486 will buy a lot of diesel fuel. I choose to keep an eye on the odometer and forego the replacement. From what I gather in reading the many posts on this subject, replacement becomes a recurring practice.

My sending unit just went on the blink the other day. . I'm getting my share of DC quirks in my first month of ownership. .

The three local Dodge dealers out here, Lithia Dodge quoted $220 installed, Antioch Dodge, $310 and Brentwood Dodge, $221.

Brentwood gets the business.

PS: Antioch has been HIGH on everything... .
