My fuel gauge has started acting abnormal. First time after 253K. It does not go past the full mark/line like it used to. Moves around more now:rolleyes: Seems to setting somewhat after about 15-miles after a fill- up:confused: What wires, grounds, and or systems should I check first? All other electrical items perform normal. Thanks in advance to you who reply... :D

I agree that it is most likely the sender. Mine would drop to empty around 1/4 tank and then come back up as it got closer to empty, replacing the sender took care of it.

Fuel sender, replacement...

The fuel sender is in the tank correct? How difficult is it to replace? Steps. is it in the factory manual? What else should be done if I get in there? How long has anyone gone without replacement? I can just calculate my miles for fuel in the tank :-laf... Thanks in advance for any responses'.

It's not hard to do. 2 ways, pull the box off, or drop the tank. Pulling the box is easier, you can see the lines to remove them from the sender, which can be a PITA. And you don't have to drain the fuel to be able to handle it.

Just pull the lines and the plug for the wires, remove the big lock ring, (it screws off) and pull the sender. Watch out, it holds fuel in the bottom half. This is a good time to check the strainers and clean them too, unless you replace the whole module. There is 1 clipped on the bottom, and one inside the module.

You can go without for ever if you want. I replaced mine because I was going on a trip and wanted to know exactly how much I had in there. ;)
