Ok, guys. Seeing some of these recent post of fuel gauge accuracy has me thinking. I always thought I had a 22 or 24 gallon tank. If I am reading everything right we have a 30, correct? Well for the year and a half I have had the truck I guess I have been fooled. When it gets down to a 1/4 tank I can only get between 13-15 gallons of fuel in it to fill it up. So that makes my gague off by over a 1/4 tank. I am scared to drive it past 1/4 to see how far I can actually go. I have no idea if my low fuel light even works. So is there a fix to this problem? Thanks Bill

My guage is about the same way. I've heard that a new sending unit will fix this problem, but i like freaking people out and then they offer to pitch in for some fuel. Works out pretty nice. I can take the needle up and past the E and put about 26 gallons in it. I believe the low fuel light comes on with about 5-7 gallons of fuel left. Thanks all I know, alonzo

According to my 92 owner's manual the fuel capacity is 30 gals (US). When the fuel level gets down to approx 1/6 of the tank then the "Low fuel" light comes on. Whenever, I fill up the tank I reset the trip meter and refill when I have driven between 550-650 km. I find that the "Low fuel" light is fairly accurate in my truck.

Well thanks guys. I never knew there was a low fuel light!

In normal back abd forth to work I usually just top off at about 3/8 tank and put in maybe 12 gal.

But I always reset the odometer... I know I can easily do 500 miles if I need to.

fuel sender

:) Bill, there is a new sender available from the dealer to fix the guage problem. The hardest part is getting all the fuel out the tank. I just dropped the tank a little and turned it on the side a bit to get to the sender and changed it, works great now. It appears that quite a few of these trucks had this problem. Good luck! YEP,same deal on mine gauge off by about 1/4 low fuel light comes on mine holds about 20 or so gallons. No biggy!Been that way for years.

Useful load

I can tell you from first hand experience that the maximum amount of fuel you can use is 27. 5 gallons. :rolleyes:

I've run mine out of fuel twice and that is what it took to fill up both times. I don't recommend testing this when your 50 miles from nowhere :--) ..... with no tools :eek: ... . with your wife :mad: ... ... who's pregnant... . #@$%! :{

I keep track of my fuel mileage and use the trip OD to let me know when its time to fill-up. I normally put in 24. 5 to 25 gallons at a fill-up.
