Yesterday I got at it. Had about 5-10 gal of fuel still in the tank. The fuel line connections at the top of the tank can be a bit difficult for those of us with large hands. The complete job took me about 2 hrs by myself. I lowered the tank on some wood blocking and just walked it down to the ground and just the reverse to put it back up. I repaired the sending unit by cutting off the plastic stud and then installing a p-nut on the metal shaft. I also bent the contacts a bit so they will still work if it developed more play. I did notice that the float was starting to break up on some of the corners, has anyone else noticed this? Overall it is a pretty simple job. I don't know how you would do this by lifting the bed if had no one to help you. Now we will see how long the repaired sending unit lasts. Cheers

Mine is out right now as well... . My corners are worn out, but I am going to the stealer tomorrow, to fix it once and for all. How long was yours out?? After 2 years, you learn to tune out the chime, though it gets annoying at times... I guess I will have to learn to tune it back in now, right?? Oh well... Let me know how the fix holds!!!

No Chime on mine just the "idiot Light" . It's been out for 2 years (since I bought the truck used). I figured it would be nice to have it work as some of my employees periodically drive my truck (shiver) and I know they don't look at the trip meter. I myself drive by the odometer for fill ups. It will be interesting to see how long the repair holds.

What you have to do is jack the rear up, put some stands under the axle, take the tire off, then wedge yourself between the quarter and the frame then reach in with both hands navigating around stuff till your in the most uncomfortable situation then it all works good:mad: I hate that job, you need two floor jack to make it easy. I dropped mine 3 times now... . PITA:p

CAUTION----fuel gauge repair may lead to higher fuel costs----

I was going to fix mine

I don't know about you guys , but since owning trucks, everyone seems to be borrowing them--now they panic when they see the fuel gauge on empty & put diesel in it, whereas, before they never bothered!!!!!!!

As you said it. I had one of my front discs turned to get rid of a warp and when I got the bill, in the comments box it read "Test drove only a short distance as fuel registered zero" :D :D :D

This was just before I fixed my guage. Cheers
