2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tail Light Blink Question

First time I let the service station attendant fill my truck up with fuel in 3 years 8 months and guess what happens, yep he over fills it and now the gauge sticks once and awhile when I fill up.

Is there anything I can do to keep it from sticking in the full position or am I doomed to have to change the float or sending unit or what.

Thanks,

Ron

Is this common. I "top off" mine on every refill and have never noticed a prob. It is easy to drop the tank and replace the sender. Just wait till the tank is empty. ;)

The way I understand it, it is very common, at least on the earlier 24 valve units, I don't know the build numbers but there use to be alot of talk about it.

I would use the search feature but when posts were moved a while back every thing was listed under archieves and it is almost impossilbe to find what your looking for without spending days or even weeks rereading old posts.

Friend of mine had the dealer fix his stuck on full gauge when the service manager laid on the ground, kicked the tank and told him not to fill it up all the way any more. It worked. You could also use a mallet. If it keeps on sticking replace the sender. Don't let the dealer try to sell you the $300 tank module, all you need is the $40 sender.

My '95 got two sending units in 54k miles. My '98 got one in 89k miles before I learned of the "don't pack the tank full trick". My '01. 5 hasn't had the problem. I've only packed the tank once when the knozzle didn't shut off and wet my leg. I sure hope my soon to be '03 doesn't have this little characteristic. :D
