I fixed mine the easy way. . using the trip odometer. just don't forget to reset everytime you refuel.

If you really want to fix it search the archives.

You have to either drop the tank or raise the bed. Mine went out but dealer replaced under warranty. I have read that it is seems to be easier to raise the bed and all in all not that hard of a job. I think someone posted some instructions on it here. Maybe a search will provide the process.

Mine had gone out @ about 70,000 miles and I think it was the sending unit, but it was so long ago, I can't quite remember exactly. The service tech just dropped the fuel tank, which IMO was very easy to accomplish. Raising the bed seems like a lot of work compared to just loosening the two nuts on the tank straps and lowering the tank with a hyrdo jack. I had to lower mine a while back to install my custom traction bars and it took 5 minutes to get it out of the way.

Yep ditto on the tripodometer

been using my odometer since bad fuel ruined injector pump & injectors on trip down the Alcan. had to replace pump & injectors gauge never made it up the gotta do list

My 94 went out at 38k. You would think that trucks made years later would have been fixed. (It was chronic problem in 94).

Been using the odo since 96 (black tape over that annoying light)

If your going to fix, I would drop the tank after emptying.

Good luck

I just replaced my sending unit in the tank. It took me about 2 hours total. Could have done it in less time but i started out with a full tank(would not recomend even if you have a lift). It farily simple just drop the tank and swap them out. You will either need some big channel locks or there is a specailty tool to get the ring off the top.
