Did a search on bad fuel level senders, but did not find many that went out on the 2000 to 2002 trucks. Any of you guys with newer trucks experience this? Mine reads correctly till I get down to about 5/8 of a tank. Then it just stays there. Doesn't drop to empty or set off fuel chime or any of that stuff.

What do you guys think? Fuel sender? Loose wire?

I won't take it to the dealer even if it is covered under warranty. I would rather just fix it myself like the others have.

I'm looking for a "quick fix" before I decide to drop the tank.

TIA

When it seems to get hung up drive a while and give the tank a good "Hit" with your fist or board. If the gauge drops to where you think the level should be then there is a good possibility that the unit is in the tank crooked causing the float to hang up on the side of the tank. Or it's just plain messed up. The sender fix/replace is an easy fix, It took me about 2 hrs by myself a month ago. Good luck.

I just did mine, as it has been out for 2 years... it is going back in tomorrow though... will be happy to see that little sucker working again!!

I think Tardog has it right.

This happened to me when I installed a new sending unit. It would go down to about 2/3 and stay there. Since the unit sits so close to the tank wall, I figured it was resting against the wall. I loosened the big ring ontop of the tank and clock the unit slowly and I heard the float drag down the wall and splash into the fuel. The goof-up was fixed.
