My fuel heater did have an overheated connector that was leaking. The plug was moist with fuel when I disconnected it.
Thank you Joe.
I now need the part numbers from Cummins or Chrysler for the heater and the two gaskets. I know it's Summer but i'd rather fix the heater now rather than in the freezing cold because the truck wouldn't start.
I also need information about the gaskets themselves for an intermediate fix.
The gasket that fits the pre filter was dry rotten and has visible cracks. The gasket on top of the fuel heater is a smaller diameter and keyed? I was in hopes I could swap it as a temporary solution but I don't believe this can be done. Any Ideas?
The truck ran as Predicted- 18psi idle (22 after engine warmed) and ran up to 32psi in highway speed driving. I drove 10 miles, shut down for 45 minutes at the parts house and made it 5 miles toward home and the fuel pressure became erattic again. It is however above 18psi. (sustains 18-23psi) I think the heating and cooling cycle failed the old gasket.
For future reference, the fitting that retains the fuel heater is 8mm rather than 10. I also need to know whether the pre filter needs to be torqued on or just hand tightened-as it has mouldings for hand assembly.
I now have hope that a solution is found. I just have to figure out how to get the gaskets.
Thanks to those of you who have helped me.
