Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) fuel heater debacle

Hey, guys. I removed my fuel heater last spring because it was causing an air leak, but figured I better replace it now, since the temps are dropping. I called up three Dodge dealers, b/c NAPA said they don't carry the part, and gave them a description, location, vehicle VIN #, and Fleetguard part #, and none of them knew what i was talking about, but after much discussion, they all quoted a price of just under $300. I asked specifically for just the fuel heater element and the gasket. Does this price sound right? I thought it would be at most under $100. Is there anywhere else to get one? Also, what temp. do these things become necessary? If I don't install it, will it hurt my pump? I live in Delaware. Thanks!

heater (called a fuel kit) 3928013s $ 43. 91

harness (thermostat) 3843722s $ 49. 59



Those two part #'s will get you what you need. I think they are the new fleetguard #'s.

If you can find a place to get the heater and wiring from please post it. My dodge dealer wants 280 that is for the assembly. dont sell just the heater.

Use the part numbers on the referenced thread. Go to Cummins or a big rig shop. I think the part numbers for the 1st gen engines are the same. Dodge doesn't have a clue about the fuel heater.
