Do we have fuel heaters on our rigs? My 1984 6. 9 Ford (Int. ) diesel had in-line fuel heaters on it, and I could run straight #2 fuel, with no additives, at near 0 degrees without to much fear of gelling the fuel filter. Having two tanks on it I could start it on the tank with # 1 fuel, and then switch it over to #2 fuel, and run all day at that temp. I did freeze it up once, but it was well below 0 that day.

But getting back to the original question, if we don't have fuel heaters, we should have. Don't you think??

There is a fuel heater on the 3rd gen trucks (not sure about 2nd gen). It's mounted on the filter cansiter, toward the front of the vehicle.

All of our cummins powered dodges are equipped with fuel heaters. The third gen heater is in the top of the fuel filter. a bimetallic switch turns the heater on when the fuel temp is below 40 degrees F. and shuts off at 80 degrees F.

Thanks fellas.

I froze up my 99 last year when it was around 10 degrees. I had the family along at the time. "They were really impressed"!!!

It was a lucky thing that some friends came along, and gave us a ride home. Where we were stalled was about 16 miles to the nearest town, and about midnight. We had been returning home from seeing off our nephew. (he went to Iraq)
