I am a first time CTD owner(06MCAB4x4) with 5K miles.

Just wondering if anyone has used the BG Products for cleaning fuel injectors and removing carbon deposits? http://www.bgprod.com/products/diesel.html

I have noticed when I have stomped on the throttle it creates a lot of smoke. Is this normal. I am aware of deisels creating heavy smoke but just wondered if this should be normal for a truck with the few miles I have.

Whats the best way to clean injectors and carbon build up?

Thanks,

Chad

I used Lucas injector cleaner for awhile and noticed more noise, enough so that it made me nervous and I quit using it.

Are you all stock? When I step on mine people either slow down and change lanes due to the amount of smoke, are you creating that much?:D

Yup, all stock. Its a pretty significant amount of smoke and its just when I step on it. I am assuming its just normal, just seems like a lot.

Chad... Where are you located (altitude?)

I am at around 9,000 feet and due to the less air mine smokes quite a bit more than at just a mile high.

I am in Houston Texas. I have also noticed some carbon on the rear panel of the truck bed and bumper and of course inside the pipe is coal black. I guess its just all new being a first time deisel owner.

Is that a manual trans?... .

Bob, am curious as to if this makes a difference?? I do have the NV5600 but attribute my soot mostly to the altitude.

BTW- Chad... fill out yer sig to tell us the specifics of yor truck.

Fkovalski,

Is your engine stock? My wife, kids and I went up to Mt. Princeton last week for a few days of R&R before school starts. My truck smokes like you could not believe up there:eek: I'd keep it a gear lower and roll into the boost. Any WOT in what would be considered a lug situation looked like a volcano:D

I was on CO-69 driving to our cabin in Westcliffe and set the box to 9/9 and made a valley dissappear:-laf

Chad, is it a big puff or is it continuous?

Yes, 'tis stock... . I really think that the altitude is a BIG factor on smaoke... just like carburetors.

Pretty areas, huh? Nothin' like livin' in a play ground!! Hope you enjoyed yer R&R!

Yeah I did. I'm from Woodland Park, CO originally, so I savor every moment that I'm up there. Still can't get used to this TX heat, even after 8 years down here.

I see a lot of 6 spd drivers lug the engine. At elevation it takes a bit more rpm to keep'em clean

Gottcha' That makes sense. I generally will run up to 50- 55mph in 5th gear (where conditions permit) and only tag 6th at speed over that.

Thanks!
