Looking at a 2014 Ram diesel truck for sale. Seller says injectors were replaced by dealer at 111,000 miles. Don't know what the longevity of fuel injectors are but this seems premature. Is this a result of not replacing fuel filters at the proper service interval or?
Truck also had Turbo Actuator replaced at 125k miles, which is a normal issue on these I hear. Can actuators usually go at least 100k miles before needing replacement?
Also what is the factory coolant color supposed to be. It had the water pump recall done at 90k miles and owner had dealer replace the coolant with new. I've heard these trucks must use factory coolant or heater cores can get plugged up using other types of coolant.

No telling what may have caused the premature injector failure.
Had to replace all of mine at 400K after the tech and RAM couldn't nail down the random injector misfire codes, also replaced the high pressure pump at the same time.
IMO, the bosch injector design SUCKS, very easily damaged electrical connectors and iffy internal engineering. Poorest part of the 6.7 Cummins design.

As to actuators, very much luck of the draw, mine is still original at 600K.
City Diesel makes an upgraded design actuator, more robust than OEM, and easier R&R, no calibration needed.

Original coolant color is purple, but it changes color after a time.
It is an OAT formulation, similar to Dexcool.
It does not mix well with other coolant types, can cause deposits when mixed with incompatible types.
MOPAR coolant can be had fairly reasonably, about $20-$24 a gallon for concentrate, then mix your own 50/50 with a gallon of distilled water, about 80 cents at walmart, gets you two gallons for $11-$13 each.

111k miles is very premature. Were they all replaced? Did he say why? I doubt fuel filter replacement was a factor. Poor quality fuel more likely or possibly manufacturer defect.

Turbo actuators in that vintage are somewhat problematic. There have been revisions and not many reported do overs once replaced.

Coolant color is really subjective and not necessarily an indicator of proper or improper coolant. There are a few different types that can be used that are compatible but don't reflect the color of OE coolant. If you don't know specifically what was used and it is questionable it is best to flush it and put in an acceptable coolant.

They are not a poor design either, they do their job just fine and for most vehicles last a lifetime. Mostly all of the time I agree with you, but not on this one.

Thanks to you all for your input.
He never said why the injectors were replaced.
I'll look at his invoice this weekend.
