Last night I went to top off the tank. The price has dropped from 1. 59 to 1. 29. Any way the station was really busy. The auto-diesel pumps were plugged up so I went to the rig island. When I left, this guy in a DuraMax pulled in. i watched run his card through the pump, open his tank, grab the nozzle, flip on the pump. And then he stood there looking at the nozzle and his truck. Finally he slams the nozzle into the pump backs up and into line to wait for the auto-diesel island. :D I love my Dodge

got big fuel inlet?

Sounds like this could be the making of a 'priceless' if you know what I mean.

Duramax, Chevy...

The "BIG" fuel handles fit,, just not all the way in,, you have to hold it up. Maybe that filler the DMax owner was at was bigger than the ones we have around here in town,, one thing you can't do with the Big fillers,, is pump fast. Which isn't such a bad thing,, since filling fast damages the Fuel Sender unit in the tank.

Peace out. .

You got me!

How does a fast fill damage the sender unit?

The local retailers I use only have "fuel" islands and none of this auto- diesel humility. The local station uses a standard nozzle that fits a Chevy tank neck (talked to one this summer with a new DuraMax as he filled in the next stall). The truck stop where I usually purchase fuel has regular and fire hose sized nozzles. I prefer the regular nozzle as I just stick it in and set to the second click. The #@$% fire hose nozzles require that I barely stick it in and have to feather it up to the first click.

I was going to remove the float ball in the filler neck, but had seconds thought as the green burp down the paint may get worse instead of less. Any experience out there?

I thought for sure I heard about somebody here at TDR had a problem with the fuel sender directly related to filling at the high-flow fuel pumps.

I did a search, but couldn't find the post I was looking for. If I remember the post,, He had a certain a year truck (2nd gen), and his friend had a '98, and they kept having fuel sender probs,, and when they stopped filling up at the station with the high-flow pumps, the problems went away.

If I run across the post, I'll come and post it.

Don't see how fast filling could effect the sender since the float is enclosed in the tank module. If a rapidly changing fuel level is what is causing the problem it seems that going up and down steep hills would damage the sender also. It's not something I'd worry about. The main problem with the sender is just plain old poor quality.

stay out of the smoke....

Well I have not heard of this but the way Dodge builds these things who knows. I think Merrick has been breathing some of that smoke he is now putting out. :p

The Island I was talking about must be the firehose size. The Auto-diesel nozzle is the size of the old leaded gas ones. At this station they also have high volume nozzles. I have to use the lowest auto position or it keeps shutting off.

Cough, Cough, Cough.

Ah, Thanks Bob. I wouldn't have found it.

Yah, Well, That Turbo lag is putting a new meaning to "Smoking" the competition.

The nozzles I describe as "fire hose" are probably 1¼ to 1&frac12 in diameter including the spring overwrap.

Unless you remove the rollover ball in the filler neck, I don't know how one can fill in under 2 minutes.

The true "fire hose" filler is the EMCO WHEATON fast fill system used on transit buses, etc. I think they governor those to keep the fill rate below 40-50 gpm.

Thanks for the replies and finding the link Bob.

Pump with both sizes!

Last time I fueled, the pump I usually grab was busy so I picked another. Picked up the "wimpy" nozzle, stared at it a second, looked at the pump. Yup, it's diesel. Proceded to use it while looking at the other nozzle which was the big one. The way my flatbed is made, turned out the small one had to be held so it would not fall out.

The one drawback with the large nozzle is if you pump fast, you can make a lot of foam. Your mileage will look good but won't be real.

That had to be a hoot watching that Duramax. Should have pulled up and asked how he liked the truck. LOL
