I can grab the line as it exits the injector pump and move it over a quarter inch in and out of the fitting that tightens the line.
What do I need to fix this? Is there a replaceable seal? Do I need to remove a particular line bundle?
All help is appreciated. I'm down until I can get it fixed. What a mess it makes too.

see if you can tighten it with a 3/4 or 19mm wrench, also make sure it is sitting in the center of the fitting on the pump. There are no seals it is all done on compression. I don't have a picture of the lines with me so I don't know how easy it will be to get to the nut, but you may have to loosen some other nuts to get to that line.
 
Thanks, I've got things apart enough to see that I'll have to remove #6 to get a wrench on it. I pray that it's just loose but have my doubts. Your info about no seals helps soo much. Thank you.
Anyone else have suggestions I'm still puzzled why, after 112,000 miles it would suddenly loosen up that much. It was shooting diesel like a super soaker all over the place. Not a drip, drip leak.
 
The line broke right at the bulb head fitting inside the nut.
Am I wasting my time trying to fish the individual #3 line out or am I going to have to take all of them out in a bundle?

I got #3 line out by loosening up clamps and #2 and #4 line. The real test will be if I can get the new #3 line ($76) back in w/o bending/kinking anything else.
I did notice that a couple of the bigger clamps that are suppose to hold two lines at a time to the block had vibrated off. That probably contributed to the #3 line breakage. Something to look for during regular maintenance.
 
YUP - vibration is what probably did you in - like you say, it's a good idea to get up close and personal in under the hood from time to time... :-laf:-laf

Curious though, line #3 was one of the lines that had all the clamps in place and tight from what I can tell. Maybe there's dynamics happening that isn't apparant to the visual eye. Either way I'm glad replacing the pump has been delayed for awhile. Sure to come sometime though.
 
I think I found the cause of this line break. The first hold-down clamp line #3 just to the front of the OEM filter housing is a bracket holding two other lines. The bolt that holds the bracket on the block also holds another bracket above. That bolt was loose. The bracket could move slightly but wasn't obviously loose. I had to pull on it pretty good before it would move. #3 line seems to have the potential to suffer from excessive vibration due to it's many bends and transitions. Just thought I would complete this threads info for future searches. Thanks to all for the help.
