I have a fuel leak at my injection pump. It does not seem to leak continuosly, but some times when idling I notice a drip under the truck. Furhter investigation reveals that when you start the engine fuel seems to well up where the front of the pump attaches to the gear housing. If you watch it, you don't see the fuel except when you first start the engine. Also I observe that fuel is NOT leaking into the oil pan (not making oil).

Engine is running fine, not smoking and not getting air in the lines, best I can tell.

Any conclusions as to what might be leaking and what steps might be needed for repair ? About 133K on the clock... .

on my 92 i had an o-ring blow out that was behind a plate that is on the side of the pump that sits up against the engine block. it looked like one of the bolts holding the plate on came loose and the fuel pressure blew a hole right though the ring. im not sure if this is your problem because i was leaking a steady stream of fuel. i had to take the whole pump off to get to it, cause like i said the bolts that hold the little plate on are right up against the engine. not sure what the purpose of the o-ring is but i replaced it and it works fine now.

If leak is located at the front of pump just above where it fastens to the gear case, you have a gov shaft O ring that has taken holiday.

Pull said pump in all cases and reseal the ENTIRE unit. All seals/O rings have the same number of hours and one leak paves way for another.

I have a '93 I'm trying to fix after some ranch hands did thier job on it. It is a reman pump and is leaking at the pump where the line from the KGB attaches. Can this be repaired without pulling the pump? They bent the lines so badly I had a really difficult time getting them back on.

The KGB was Russian Intellegence.

At which end of the line do you speak of? The end with the nut that threads into the fitting on the side of the advance piston bore (cover) ?

I don't know if you can remove the line on the pump. The pumps internal pressure regulator has to be pulled. It would have to be pulled staight up and out after you managed to unthread the fitting that holds it.

I never tried other than with pumps on the repair bench.

HA HA on me. Pardon an old man with slow brain and fat fingers. I did mean the line from the KSB to the pump. It is leaking at the pressure regulator end. Have a 10mm crows foot coming. Will try to take it off in place.

Thanks

Turned out to not be too bad a job with the pump in place. Rebuilder failed to replace the o-rings on the pressure regulator. No more leaks.

Thanks again
