Recently I replaced the lines to lift pump and return. Last week I noticed the WIF'er was wet. I tightened it up and dried it off. Next day, wet again. Replaced the WIF'er and Filter. Everything is dry. However, I can still smell fuel.

Any ideas.

Thanks.

Did you clean everything off real good. I can not for the life of me do a neat filter change on this 96. I would guess your just smelling residual fuel.

Joe, I looked at that fitting and the top of the filter housing and pretty much ran clean paper towels arond and on everything that woulld have clean fuel. Nothing.

Hopefully, KennyM may have the answer. I'll clean the left half of the motor and see how it smells after that.

Thanks, guys.

my 96 fuel filter drain or water in fuel sensor is always wet. i tried tightening it up but it is pretty tight. you would think there was o-ring in that area but there is only one small one at top and the regular o-ring for the filter itself.

I also am still smelling fuel after my last filter and WIF change, I cleaned everything up and still smell it, now I'm noticing a slow drip again. I do not know what or where it is coming from. I might just change out everything in that area, pre filter, lift pump and all tubing. Also I'm thinking seriously about installing a FASS system.

Anybody useing the FASS on the 12 valve? how do you like it?

Fanzdieselpower:

You should have three o rings that come with your "spin" on cartridge filter.

One for the top of the filter

Second smaller one for the threaded stud that the filter spins up onto the base on.

Third a oring for the wif sensor where the plastic shoulder contacts the filter base.

After a leak with our glorious HD fan you will have a diesel smell for a long while unless a through cleaning is done. This would include the firewall blanket in particular if it got wet from the leak.

Good luck

Andy
