Axle Seal Leak Drivers Side Questions

This is the second time in as many longer trips this has happened. Drove from Buffalo, NY to home in Arlington, VA and on arrival found that I had fuel ALL OVER the underside of the truck on the drivers side and on the tailgate. Figured it may have beena fluke since it cleaned up and no more leaks for over a month. Of course I didn't have any long trips (2. 6 miles to work) until this week when I drove up to Nashua, NH and the same thing happened. Took it to the local dealer and nothing jumped out at the tech, just a bit dirty around the #5 fuel line. Well he wants to change the fuel lines from the manifold to the block, but can't get parts until after I must get home. Had him check the tightness of all the line, clean the area near them and am hoping that may do the trick. Since I had just changed the oil about 2 weeks before this trip had him check it to see if I was getting fuel in the oil (nope) The leak (wherever it is) soaked the underside from just behind the drivers tire on back. Looking for idea guys, so I can check some things when I get back home Monday afternoon if it happens again. BTW am keeping the tach under 2000 most the time (70MPH) Oh, and BTW, it ain't the fuel filter housing... it's not even on the truck any more. The GDP system is under the truck on the frame rail and no leaks there. Thanks in advance.

Well, that's where I was going to point the finger! Is the underside of the hood soaked?

You might want to put some dye in the fuel tank, then stop periodically on your drive with a black light to see if you can identify the source that way.

fuel vent line? Long trip, builds pressure, then it purges out the vent? I'm not sure why he'd (the tech) want to replace fuel lines at the block if your leak is on the tailgate and aft of the drivers tire:confused: Sounds to me like a tank/vent issue.

If you meant to say from the FRONT drivers side tire on back, check the fuel return banjo on the back of the head. IIRC, it is a 19 mm head, have had to tighten mine a few times now, usually during the cooler months.

Happen to know the torque on that bolt? Looks like a PITA to get too as well

Just got back from NH. Still leaking so I'll have to ASSUME it that dang bango bolt. Since I have a 7 yr 100000 mile warranty, may just SUGGEST the dealer look there rather then the fuel lines going in. Kinda hard to keep the truck "clean" with this going on... . But it's kinda fun to see the tailgatars turning on their wipers when they get a little too close :-laf

Thanks for the ideas of places to look!
