I could not for the life of me figure out why my gas mileage went to crap-in-a-handbasket. Yes, I had put on larger tires (one size larger) and still have not recalibrated, but 100 miles less a tank? Then I noticed a small puddle of what I thought was sludge under the truck. It is right next to the crank case breather tube. When I got down to inspect it I realized it was fuel, and it was everywhere.

I cranked up the engine and had my son rev it to 2K and watched under the wheel well with a flashlight. It was coming from the fuel rail. It was not a fast gush like I would expect but a steady drip. It turned out to be the coupling behind the nipple that connects the brass fuel line on injector 6. We had to take off the fuel line to injector 6, then take off the nipple, then take off the coupling and clean it off. We put it all back together and no leak!. I had no idea junk could get pushed into the threads to the point of causing a leak, but based on the pressures it is not all that surprising. I immediately got 4 MPG better fuel economy. Thank goodness. After the money I spent on upgrades my wife was ready to kill me because of the LOST mileage.

If anyone out there knows of other fuel system gotchas please post and let me know about them.

From what I've read here, having inj line 6 crack and leak is fairly common but it doesn't sound like yours cracked. Nice that you got it fixed so easily and for free too! BTW, the lines aren't brass, just cadmium plated steel.
