Was on a trip this weekend and while motoring along I smelt fuel, "No big deal, must of got fuel on my boots at the last fuel stop". I stopped at a farm implement dealer and got of the truck and there was fuel dripping from the engine bay. Well, pouring rain, no one around, I figured "Lets just drive a little further". The fuel gauge was dropping faster then a beer on Friday night, so I stopped again, by now the car on the trailer was covered with fuel. So I figured out the return line was leaking behind the fuel filter housing. To make a long story short, I borrowed some more tools and a chunk of 5/16" hose from one of the guys at a farm that we went to. After replacing the line and putting the filter back together, we were under leak free power and headed home, but not before being entertained by the guys kids (interesting boys). I got real lucky by getting help, could have been an ugly scene.

The moral of the story, just let your truck break on the road and you'll get to meet some nice people.

Glad you were able to find some help. I replaced my lines last night as well. The return was just starting to leak. Wasn't enough to start dripping onto the ground. Truck runs MUCH better now. :D I'm surprised I didn't have your exact situation. The line was in very bad shape.

I have to finish and put some new line on in the near future. We used a chunk of used hose for the on-road repair. Questionable hose was better than leaking hose. We were lucky to get help and only be "broke" for three hours.
