anyone have a picture of the fuel lines feeding a 12 valve , can't seem to find the leak , took the fuel filter out today to look but it's still tight, thanks in advance

I don't think there are any pictures or drawings of exactly where the fuel lines are.

Where is it dripping from? Is it leaking while it's running? Or just when the engine is off?

champspa, the return fuel line (rubber) is behind the fuel filter. the rubber hose starts form behind the injection pump and ends half way down the transmission cowl (cowl I think that is what you call it).

The supply line (rubber) starts behind and rear of fuel filter and ends same place as the return fuel line.

Joe in 96 Dodge service manual under fuel systems (Diesels) Fig 1. page 14-70 they show the lines but no pointers to them.

Bill,

There are some diagrams like that in my '95 manual. However, they are incomplete and a bit misleading. If I can find out where the drip is and if it does it when the engine is off or when it is running or both I have a better chance of figureing out what is wrong.

found the leak behind the fuel filter as you all have said . have found 1 line I'll have to get my inspection mirror and look tomorrow. thanks guys :D

If it's behind the fuel filter then it is probably the return hose. If those hoses are the original you might as well replace both the supply and return. If the leak is not the hose it eventually will be. Another place that can leak and appear to be behind the fuel filter is the fuel filter input banjo fitting. It is a stack of two banjo fittings. One is from the lift pump. It is the large banjo fitting. The small banjo fitting on top of the large one is the return from the injectors.

I had the same problem with leaking fuel, it turned out to be a very cracked and brittle return line from behind the injection pump. It was very cheap to fix but what a ***** to replace!! just two simple hose clamps and a piece of rubber fuel line thats all. the problem is accessing the line as the brake booster and steering shaft and throttle cables are all in the way, took me about 2 hours to replace.

I have had two

I just get the starter out of the way and come in from the bottom, pain to get to. Replaced it with marine hose last time, and put a wrap of 5/8 heater hose around it. I think the heat from the block causes these hoses to rot prematurly. This has worked for the last three years, usually only get two years out of a return hose.

Fuel line

Champspa read what happen to me and the fuel line in(12V no engine and trans) under heading AIR Bags. Just a note I droped in to warn others.

AWallace,

The next time you work on the hoses on anything else in that area, remove the two nuts that fasten the master cylinder to the booster. Then you can lean it toward the fender. Lots more room to work.

Had same problem with 94 4x4. Hot fuel return line. Was told common for them to go out. Line cost $10 but labor coast $100.

Fuel leak

Joe G I put Trident 365 Marine grade back on I had orded from Larry B's I hope this does it for me. The only thing I did not like about the hose it looks like it has a plastic liner in side the hose. I had to take a pair of needle nose pliers and stretch the end to ever slide them on by pushing them in the hose. All this sitting in a parking lot.

The best part about that hose is the liner. I bought enough from a shipyard in the NorthWest to replace ALL the fuel lines (metal, rubber, plastic, wood, and whatever else Dodge decided to use!). You're right though, its tough as nails to push onto a fitting.
