I think the rubber part on the fuel sending unit in the tank tends to swell up and cause them to fail. My 02' is on it's third sending unit. If your fuel gage is on the fritz there's probably a 99. 9% chance the problem is a bad sending unit in the tank. Has anyone managed to kill more sending units than me?

I have 6 months and about 10000 miles on totally rebuilding the fuel sending unit with a totally different system from Tempo. I think I have the solution, but do not have years and years on it yet.

Centroid and westach both make capacitance type senders and will make the correct type for our vehicle. The centroid one is $45. 00ish. The Westach one not sure on the price of that one. If you are willing to use a different gauge then easy as pie from what I can see. However I would really like to use the stock gauge and so far have been unwilling to just cut and splice and see what happens. A couple members have done the conversion tractorface who doesnt seem to be around anymore and JR2 says his buddy brobertson has done it. I have not been able to get a hold of them and see how they wired it up. It appears to be simple but in a post tractor face had made he talked about having to get into the several wiring harnesses etc. JR2 said that brobertsons install was quick and easy. So not sure which it is. SO far I have been unwilling to test it and see what happens as pcms and ecms are not that cheap but getting very close to the point of doing it. You will have to mount the sender in a new spot as it cant go in the stock location due to the canister inside the tank. That should not be a problem though. It should be noted that I am electrically challenged and have just been scared to try it. Bob Weis did an impressive reconfiguring of his as he mentioned. He has a great thread on what all he did.

Hmm, I measured 20 ohms full and 200 empty...
The sensor itself seems to be working fine, no hanging points or tightness, and the float is in good shape.

I went to the CENTROID site and they are the 240/33 industry standard.

The parallel resistor I used to make the DC gauge of 200/20 read correctly on a 240/33 industry standard system has worked fine for me. Where I would fill 24 gallons at the "low fuel" warning withthe DC OEM 200/20 system I still fill 24 gallons at the same "low fuel" warning on the TEMPO 240/33 industry standard system. Everything seems to work the same electrically and CanBus wise. It has been about 6 months (10,000 miles ~ 25 tanks of fuel) of error free fuel levels.

I would be willing to say the parallel resistor concept (which really adjust the 240/33 down to 220/20) would work (but of course I am not the one doing the conversion, been there done that ;) ). Maybe some of what I figuered out with mine will help someone here with the "Centroid Project Fuel Level Sensing System". Stock guage should work fine with the parallel resistor.

GOOD LUCK

SRossi - A possible problem is the float hitting the side of the fuel tank. There are alignment marks for the cannister and the tank that have to be adheared to so the float will not hit the side of the tank. A possibility?

Centroid will for sure and I think Westach will make a probe to match the 200/20 instead of the industry standard at no extra cost.

I have finally decided I am going to do this. Now I just need to decide if I am going to go with a different tank. Been thinking hard about a transferflow midship replacement tank to get a higher capacity tank. It would require a different length probe, at least for it to accurately measure the amount of fuel left in the tank.

I guess I have a few months to decide on the tank as I am not going to try and do this in the middle of winter here since I dont have a nice warm comfy place to do it ( I know, one more excuse). However come spring, hell or high water I am jumping in head first on this and quit yaking about it and do it .
