Fuel line Guru's, I need imediate advise!

I bought the " big line kit/ lift pump relocation" to in front of the tank. Then I thought maybe I should go one step farther. I went with 1/2 fuel hose to the tank from the newly relocated pump. After I was all done with that, I got to thinking ... ... ... ... maybe this is not so good of an idea. Do you guys think that maybe the pump will suck the hose shut? Right now, it will not be hard to change it back, as the tank is not quite strapped in, and there is no fuel in it yet.

SOooo,what do you all think? change back to steel from pump to tank? Or will it be all right this way? I would sure hate to starve the pumps & take them out right off the bat. :{

My biggest concern would be the QUALITY of the rubber hose. If it is stiff and strong, like hydraulic hose, it probably won't give any trouble. If it is soft like automotive fuel line, it probably will give trouble.



If you want big line without the danger, consider forming a new line out of metal tubing with rubber hose to just connect the lines with as little length of hose as possible.

I guess I should have mentioned that the hose is Goodyear fuel hose. And although it was fairly hard to squeese shut by hand, it could be done. And when warmed up, it would be easier, I suppose. I think I will take your advise, and make it out of steel. Thanks for the reply. Have a great day!

find the part number of the hose, and see if goodyear lists its vacuum rating [link to goodyear industrial hoses pdf catalog]... some are not rated for much at all, and some will hold as much as hardline...

I used 1/2 line from tank to VP on mine. A snug spiral spring on the outside of the hose should prevent it from collapsing if you suspect that might be an issue. Hose I used was made by Parker.

That brings up another question. Are hydraulic hoses compatable with diesel fuel?

The hose I got was from Summit and is fuel hose. It is branded as "Russell" but clearly reads "Parker" on the hose and is the blue color hose. I think it was called "Push Lok" hose. It is not hydraulic hose. I've heard some say hydraulic hose is OK with diesel and some say no to this. Probably depends on the brand of hose.



As for the amount of vacuum these pumps will create, well I think that is awfully low, given a proper/typical feed supply, and not likely to create a problem. I think with any slight amount of vacuum the rotary vane style of pump will start to cavitate anyways. I could be off base here so I hope others chime in with their thoughts on this subject.

hydrolic hose is "OK" with diesel... IF, its the correct make and model. Some hydrolic hoses are NOT rated for diesel though. I have my fuel lines for my F/P gauge made from hydrolic hose, and its been fine, no leaks, no break down, but I specified a diesel rated hose when they made the lines for me. It costs a few extra bucks though.
