I know there are a ton of posts on this, but just wanted to share my thoughts and encourage those who are thinking about it. Necessity forced me to finally fix my truck, (getting a free running jeep will do that) :) Here are the results:

Leaking fuel line MPG:

13mpg / town

15mpg / highway

New fuel line MPG:

Not sure in town figures yet...

23mpg / highway (unloaded)

13. 3mpg / with loaded 18' car trailer (v-8 jeep, plow and bed full of parts) at 70 mph.

I replaced the factory pickup with a vulcan draw straw and then ran 7/16 & 3/8th line from tank to motor. All told it cost $76 and at these fuel prices, I will recover that quickly.

So go out there and get It done!

Well I thought it was up by the lift pump. Pull everything out and found I believe 6 holes throughout. . In addition I had to replace the pickup as it was destroyed at the top of the tank.

I will also add that the above fuel figures, on the highway, are at 62mph. In addition my front driveshaft is out of the truck. . I believe that is why the mileage is so close to a 2wd. .

Stupid Question...

Does the front drive shaft spin in 2 wheel drive?

The vacuum cad in the 94-2001 makes it so the ring and pinion / front drive shaft does not turn. Taking the front drive shaft will have no effect on fuel mileage. Unless you are counting the 20 lbs you lost by taking it out. My truck needs to lose weight between the driver's seat and steering wheel :-laf

You learn something new everyday. I thought it reduced the drag. My stepson took it out, rather violently I might add, when he forgot to take it out of 4wd...
