The Dreaded Oil Drips! Arrrrgh!!

Curious: Drive shaft braking (generator?) ok for autos?

I just upgraded my fuel lines to braided stainless steel, a kit I got from a fellow TDR member. It wasn't too difficult, although my arms look like I tried to give the cat a bath! My wife came out as I was finishing up and said that they looked really nice.
I am hoping this helps to eliminate the low fuel pressure problem a bit. I don't know that I have that problem, but I sure don't want it, either!
If I encounter any trouble, I will post it and let you know.

Rob,
I'm glad you got yours done. It seem to me you can't go wrong with this modification. I talked to several of the engine upgrade suppliers and it seems most of them don't think the fuel lines are a serious issue.
They tell me there is actually THREE fuel pumps in the system. First is the lift pump. The second pump is a gear pump inside the fuel pump. Third is the fuel pump.
The gear pump can negate the pressure reading of the lift pump and cause very low readings when the engine is reving up. I would think the only way to know for sure if all is well would be to monitor the return lines(?).
I hope some serious R&D is forthcoming so we will have the answers. In the mean time the fuel lines and possibly a new or 2nd inline pump seems the safe way to go!

I can't see how anyone would not take the fuel pressure problem seriously. I can see how you might not get worried if you have done no performance upgrades, but otherwise you need not go far to develop this low pressure scenario. I spoke to a fellow twin dozen valver at May Madness who had experienced some flatness in the fueling while at the sand drags. Piers stuck a pressure gauge on his truck and it was falling to 1psi!

I'm trying a new Holley lift pump on my truck tomorrow.

I think those lines play a bigger role than most people think. I installed the JRE 1/2" fuel line from the tank to the lift pump. After several tanks, there was no increase in mpg. I never checked pressure. Then I installed the Aeroquip fittings with the braided steel lines. My mileage went from 14-15mpg to 17-19mpg. I still haven't checked the pressure, but it sure feels like it runs and accelerates better now.

There are several references to braided lines here, even a kit. Is there somewhere that we can purchase a kit, or is this a true DYI, make-them-yourself?

Take a look at my fuel lines, I plan to offer a kit for those of you who have no interest in running down the various part numbers. I am also suggesting we upgrade the lift pump. I'll post info on my site as the testing is done.

HVAC- will you also have a kit for the 12 valve engines? (should only cost half as much!)

I am so ISB oriented that the thought of a kit for the dozen valve deviation never occured to me #ad
I will consider this at the next opportunity #ad

I guess I better back up... ... ... .....
Seems like the folks who told me not to worry are now telling me maybe I should be worried!

I hope HVAC comes up with a pump and line kit!

I understand DD is working on a system (pump and lines) to alleviate the possible problems.

Sounds like he might offer a kit for around $200... ..... It's still a month or so from being a happening.

I know Ted J has lines to the lift pump, I would hope he goes a little further and solves the whole problem... ... ...
Bombers are waiting!!!!!!!!!
