ok in my project truck i am swapping in a 92 6bt, long story short i dont have any fuel lines and i honestly forgot what connected to what ... .

i have gotten a fuel tank that should fit into my 79 trailduster that will let me put the factory 92 sending unit in place

now my build that this point i have been doing it under the theory of doing it once ... . eventually i will be pushing big numbers with this truck and i am laying the ground work now ... .

what type of line should i run ? i was going to use flexable braided stainless line with an fittings ..... will i even be able to hook this stuff to the factory parts ?

and what size id tube should i be looking into?

I would say I would look at -8 line maybe I believe it's 1/2 ID but I am not sertain if it will hook to the tank lines ?there plastic if I remember right .

Yes I would go 1/2 inch from the tank to the inj pump if you plan on big hp numbers... that will handle anything hp level you will be doing.

Replace the pickup and return if you have to ... just fab up something yourself.

Buy a vulcan draw straw. I think they are 1/2 inch. Don't put it in the sending unit sleeve area, it will starve for fuel on longer WOT runs. ;)

The braided steel stuff is EASY to use when you understand it finally. But it is overwhelming at first before you start buying items! When you get your box, and assemble your first fitting, you will kick yourself on how easy it all is. I say use that. I can point you to a half dozen websites to give you more info on using them and where to buy on the cheap. lemme know

I always thought I liked braided stainless steel until I used the the Parker line with a Vulcan Draw Straw on the 91. 5. This is some tough line and if you are worried about abrasion, sleeve it with another hose along the tight spots. I used -8AN supply and -6AN return with pushloc fittings. Vulcan has a new Draw Straw with 1/2" supply and 3/8" return. Works real well, snaps in a grommet you put in a hole you drill in the tank. Vulcan can source everything you need fairly reasonable. Unless you are going to put in a big lift pump with a fuel regulator for some serious HP, 3/8" (-6AN) is all you need for the supply line with a 1/4" or 5/16" (-4AN or -5AN) return. I also mounted a fuel/water separator under the cab inside the frame rail.

well i think i am going to go with the braided line ... i was going to order from summit in a kit but if you guys have got better places thats good too

i have got a filter setup for the truck already, it uses the same filters as my fass does on my 02 that way i only have to keep one extra on hand, i still have not got a water seperator ... i was kinda thinking i might just use the factory one i dont know yet

well i more or less got the new tank so i could use the newer style factory fuel level sending unit ... . i have really no problems drilling holes in the tank

and i want plenty of fuel for the future ... . bigger line is not going to cause problems now if the motor is mostly stock ?

If you already have another filter setup, then you don't need another water separator. I put in the filter/water separator because I used a Draw Straw. bypassing the in-tank screen and I wanted something to catch any "big stuff" before it got to the lift pump.

Make sure your braided line is biodiesel compatable, you don't know what we'll be burning in a few years. I was worried about the liner of the braided line breaking down and collapsing and the high-end braided line was pricey. I always thought braided line was better for positive pressure applications, especially where abrasion is a possibility.

anyone know what size and thread pitch for the fittings i need to run new lines and tie them into the injection pump ?

also for those of you that re ran your return lines where did you tie in (been so long since i took the donor truck apart i forgot? and do i need a fitting? if so what size ?

thanks in advance

You will want to upgrade the fuel pickup tube to 1/2 but put it in the fuel cannister for best results. Your return fuel from the pump routes back i9nto the cannister and helps keep it full enough to not run out of fuel.

Best results are replacing the factory draw tube with a 1/2 PVC with a 1" or even 1 1/4" bell fitting on the bottom to reduce swirl and make sure you do not suck air at low tank levels or extreme angles.

Both fittings on the injection pump are 12mm x 1. 5, so are the banjos on the stock filter housing. On the return line, I hooked to the return tee at the back left side of the engine. The stock return banjo has a tiny metered orifice. If you replace the stock return banjo and hook on at the injection pump, you will need a more complicated setup with a regulator and possibly a bunch of stuff I am not aware of. I used 3/8" return line, which was overkill for the tiny 3/16" return feed. I used a brass hose nipple adapted to something that connected directly to the fuel return tee. I took the tee to NAPA and rummaged through their fittings until I rigged something that worked. I believe the tee is 3/16" flare, but I don't remember.
