I have a 97 with the infamous fuel guage that hasn't worked for the last 50,000 miles. Don't want to spend the money to fix guage but is there an easy way to either disconnect the yellow "fuel low" light or trick it so it's off? Have used electrical tape to cover but that aint too neat. Thanks

Without looking at a wiring diagram I think all you have to do is pull the connector at the tank. If that doesn't do it ground out the wire that makes the light go out at the same disconnected connector. You won't hurt anything by grounding out the wrong wire, one is the ground, one the light and the other the gauge.

RK,

I've had the same problem on my 98 for quite awhile. I started using Stanadyne additive at 120,000 miles and I noticed the problem went away. I'm not saying its connected but I found it strange that the guage has worked fine since using the additive

It is most likely the sending unit in the tank, at least that was the problem on two friends trucks (96,97). I helped fix one of them, and it was not that difficult, just make sure you dont have too much left in the tank.
