I own a 2005 Dodge 2500 4 wheel drive automatic with 3. 73 ratio. When I purchased it the salesman said I should get 22 mpg,but I only get 19. Is this normal fuel milage?

There are a lot of people that wish they could get 19. The best I can get is about 20. 5 (according to the overhead computer thingie). Hand calculated, it is usually about 0. 5 to 1 mpg lower.

I have a stock 06 with 3. 73 gears.

I just finished a 3000+ mile round trip from Des Moines, Iowa to Mesa, AZ.

I received anywhere from 16. 5 mpg to 23 mpg, depending on wind speed/direction, highway speed (45mpg to 80mph). Truck was fully loaded in the bed with "stuff" and 2 adults/2 kids in the passenger area.

Average overall was 19. 5mpg. The tank that got the best mileage was on I-40 heading west from Tucumcari to just east of Albuquerque. I attribute that to the 5% biodiesel and wind direction in my favor. I received 23mpg (hand calc), and I was doing 75+ and getting passed by the big rigs.

Go figure. I only found biodiesel at one station on my entire trip.

Oh: for comparison, I did the same trip in Feb 2000 with a 99 2500 4x4 V10 and the best I got was 12mpg. Same route going down.

TWO WORDS: Winter Fuel. I'm waiting to see what summer fuel gets me. I picked my truck up in Late Oct. Averaging 16. 8. Keep in mind that 3G trucks are bigger and heavier than 2Gs and the HPCRD is going to use more fuel by design. I'm looking at two things to remedy. One is going to 2. 43 gears. If you have a G56 and not a NV5600 or 48RE auto, this might be sensible. I gaind 0. 5 MPG by going from 31. 6 inch to 33. 1 inch tires. The other thing I'm looking at is a PDR camshaft and better injectors. The third is perhaps a Bully Dog Triple Dog with the Crazy Larry programming. If the camshaft gives me 2 MPG, I'll lkely pass on the programmer, but might still do the gears. We'll see.

I only get 16. 5 mpg in my 06 dually with 7700 miles on it. Reason is that I live in West Virginia where there is always a hill and the interstate becomes a stop and go road every morning due to heavy traffic.

I wish people would post whether they drive on hills or flats, how fast they travel and their type of driving (highway or city) when posting mpg numbers.

I get about 19. 5 with 20% city and 80 highway keeeping my RPM under 2K (darn G56 gears). I don't know if yours is an auto or manual but it seems about right.

I get 19 on mostly flats going 75 through the city with good traffic. My rpms are at about 2100-2200.

There is no way I would get 19 when I get it revved over 2k..... I'm averaging 17 unloaded/10. 5 loaded (9k TT camper) with the ULSD/winter blend/whatever fuel they are selling for 2. 69 per around here. If you are truly getting 19, you are doing great...

Did you really believe the Salesman? 22 mpg on a 05 4x4 don't we all wish we could do that, in normal everyday use. I might get that if I were empty and had a very strong wind pushing me down a hill. If that hill were long enough

I have an 06 mega 4x4 w/24k on it. I run synth, and we have winter fuel here. I just did a 500 mile jog through mountain highway terrain (Alaska) and got 19. 4 (hand calc) while doing ~60mph @ 10 degrees with cruise. My . 02.

About 52K on my '06, engine is stock and running the OE tires for the winter (plus 250lbs of bumper/winch). I put in a half gallon of bio for every full tank which equates to about 2% bio per fill (for lubricity). I commute 25 miles each way 5 days a week in mostly stop and go traffic and I don't have a feather foot. Hand calculated I get 18mpg. I don't drive far enough on the open road to know what the highway mpg's are.

I'd love 19

I average 14-16 around town - lower if I'm unkind to the go pedal, higher if I'm keeping rpms @ 2000 on the highway. A burly cow catcher bumper, 285's, and the auto/4. 10 combo are sapping mpg's too.

Anyone with a 2500 sb 6sp quad want to trade?
