Dometic Recall

I'll try to keep this to a manageable length. With a 25' travel trailer at gcvw 13,400#-13,800# I'm down to 11-12 mpg. Not complaining except for the occasional suspicion that some pumps are cheating. I believe Texas only does the pump metering checks on a 3 yr basis. I recently started carrying a 5 gal plastic diesel can, as fuel for a 4 kw diesel generator that travels with us. I also intend to use it to check any pump that I am suspicious of (sounds paranoid I know), but a friend told me that chips are available for the diesel and gas pumps that can speed the meter up relative to the pump. He also said that some are programmed to pump 5-6 gal before they start to cheat. I don't have any proof, but it sounds possible. I did catch a station in the Valley several years ago that had every pump jacked up to meter 35-40 percent more than it actually pumped. I wrote a letter to the A/G and copied the company. About a month later, the windows were boarded up.

At what we're already paying for diesel, we sure don't need to be ripped off even more.

OOIDA (owner operators independent drivers assoc. ) among others, are fighting for mandatory temperature compensators to be installed on all U. S. pumps to allow for expansion of warm fuel. Seems retailers by their fuel @ around 68° and then the fuel warms to 70~80° during which it expands 5% (+/-). Just another way to "gig" us! Additionally... . BTU's per gal. are diluted in the proccess.
