Just picked the truck up on Saturday and was amazed at the mileage it is getting, the first tank 25. 7 gallons used, average was 15. 7. Not quite done with the second tank and the read out says 18. 3. From reading pasts posts I thought this was high.

When the dealer said he was going to fill it up, I told him to put the Stanadyne fuel conditioner in. Maybe that helped.

The biggest pain in the butt was breaking in the deal on the highway. I never used the cruise control and change speeds on the first tank, 45 to 65 for the first 300 miles and the 55 to 80 on the rest of the miles.

I have a question?

When the fuel light comes on to warn you of low fuel, how many gallons do you have left?

I looked in the manual and found nothing.

Thanks

One more thing, I had the dealer remove the Dodge sticker off the back of the truck, Does that mean I have BOMBed the truck???????
ehehehehe

BTW, Love everything about the Dodge, why did I wait so long?

Gary,

Stick with the old miles traveled/gal filled calculation to see how much the trip computer is off.
My 98 will fill up with 27 gal. every time when the light just goes on so about 7 gallons remaining. I'm looking for fuel then within the next 100 miles to be safe.

When my fuel light comes on, I have @75 miles remaining on the trip computer, and can easily drive another 50-75 after the computer says I am on fumes. While the trip computer may not be exact - mine is always slightly conservative on mileadge - mine has always been a good indicator of where I am at. I am quite amazed at how accurate it has been. No, I haven't run out of fuel, yet, but have pumped 34+ gallons into the tank. Ray

When the "low fuel" light comes on, if fuel is not immediately available, I switch the computer to distance-to-empty and when it reaches "0", I still have 5 gals. left. If towing, I know I then need to find fuel within 50 miles.

When my light comes on the oe tank I also put about in 34 gallon. I still dont worry cause I just flip a switch and still get to burn the 66 gallon in my aux. tank. If you do a lot of driving or pulling you may consider getting one. After you bite the bullet and spend the money, you will think it was well spent.

I had a 60gal tank replacing the original tank (new Pickup never out Dealers area).

I ran OUT of fuel with the guage showing over 1/2 of a tank and the low fuel light never came on. I suspect I will never see the low fuel light as I watch the trip miles like a hawk. Being kicked out of your rig at 4:30am, showing, wind blowing, remote area, with little or no traffic.

SHELL SHOCKED!

Mine is a '99 and on my last trip I got caught in no-mans-land at 4 in the morning. The low fuel alarm chimed several times, switched to the DTE and read 66 miles. At 31 miles DTE my fuel guage said empty, the fuel pump indicator on the dash panel was steady lit for some time prior. At 8 miles as recoded on the DTE I found a station and pumped in 33. 3 gallons by rocking the truck to get the bubbles out. Don't think I want to worry like that again and when away from home will fill up approaching 1/4 of tank remaining. I felt the trip computer was pretty accurate for I did re-set prior to leaving.

I have a 99 3500, when my fuel light comes on I have 7 gals left in tank. My old truck 93 model did the same, light came on with 7 gals left.

My 2000 LWB has about 8. 5 gallons left in the tank. BTW, Dont use the trip computer to calculate the milage. From what I have read, it can be anywhere from . 5-3 mpg off. Us a calculator, and you tripometer.

I never know how far I can go as I always fill my truck up when it gets to 1/2 tank to keep the water out of the tank, bu when I am on vacation towing my Jeep I let it get down to about 1/4 tank so I don't have to stop so much which is usually about 120-200 miles before empty. I just don't want to run out of fuel as my injection pump may call it quits on me if I do.

I noticed that today. The light came on drove for another 70 miles and filled to the top and still only took 27. 8 gallons.

These do have a 34 gallon tank?
