Do you run synthetic or mineral oil and do you get good or poor mileage?

  • I have ran synthetic since the truck had less than 5,000 miles on it, and I get better than 17MPG

I am curious how many of you have good vs bad mileage and have ran synthethic since less than 5,000 miles on your truck vs those with good vs bad mileage and have ran mineral oils since day 1.

I ask this because I was talking a an 03 owner at a pump who claimed he was getting poor mileage. He said he never saw better than 17 and that was driving 55MPH. During our exchange he told me how well he cared for his truck and that right when he bought it he drove over to the oil change place and had them put in synthetic and changes it every 3,000 miles. I mentioned the problem with that and was wondering if others might have done the same. Putting synthetic in too early will inhibit break in substantially, as well as too frequent oil changes too early.
