Just bought 2009 2500 2wheel drive long bed. Had 17 miles on odometer.

Took a trip up to east Texas to get set of steps for my backroom outside door, 650lbs worth.

I would like to get info on RPM's and what speed does the auto trans shift down when climbing a hill? This truck would not change gears even when the RPM's was at 1050 RPM @ about 52MPH. Too me thats is much too low.

I did check the fuel mileage for the trip with 557. 7 miles the evec or whatever that display is called said 22. 2MPG for the trip. I hand calulated it @19. 9MPG. Mind you this was the frist tank of fuel and I know that it will settle down as time goes by. I drove under 60MPH most of the trip with 55 to 58 bring most of it.

Traded in a 1990 standard cab that I bought in Feb 1990, Was a very very good truck I really hated to see it go.

Also have a 1993 (Built in July) With 125K Miles. Am looking for a buyer.

If you are getting 20 on a trip on first tank I'd say you were doing good. .

I assume you have the mopar 6 speed. . I treat this as a manual sometimes... I use the buttons to make the engine and gears do what I want. . Like when you were at 1000rpm. . Tap down to 5 and see how it works. .

I do this and use the E-brake to feel in control

I owned and operated 18 Wheelers for many years. I tried shifting like that and it brought the RPM's up to above 1500, but the mileage avg went down.

The last 18 wheeler I owned was a 1993 T600 KW with 13 speed transmission, With 80K gross I average 7. 5 MPG which I considered good.

I thought that the RE68 transmission would keep the RPM up in the SWEET SPOT of the engine, unless the new sweet spot is at 1200RPM . Running @ 55 MPH thats where the RPM'S is at!! At 65MPH = 1500RPM'S

My Differential ratio is 342. I wonder what the RE stand for?

Is you truck 2009?

Thanks for responding.

Hey I drive doubles for FEDEX 500 miles a day... I drive 10's and Super 10's

Yeah my truck is an 09. . I have the 3:73 rearend I think. . at least that is that I was told.

Id say 1200 rpm is lugging a bit. . when I shift down one gear or just kick down to 6, it will raise it to around 1500 to 1800... . I do this when I am accelerating or if there is a slight incline. . keeping the R's up is also a good thing for the DPF filter to help it do a passive burn. .

So just use it up and down and such. . keep it in control... thats what I do. . My 200 miles on the tank is saying around 16 mpg. . mostly around town.

EricBu12 I want to get the bed liner also. My nephew in GA, Has a side busness spraying Bed Liners ,I want check him out for priceing and will he do it for me.

I started my Driveing career in 1957 here in Houston, TX. I like to drive back then when the traffic was alot less envolved. But the trucks were not driver friendly.

You know where I can buy Side Steps do you?
