Just a little FYI. My 1996, 2500 with auto trans got 15. 5 ,mpg while towing my 4800lb rig from Erie to Cincinnati (345miles) traveling about 67 mph. Empty, on the way back it got 21. 3 traveling at 73. I thought that was pretty good. :)

i averaged right around 17. 5 on my last trip (about 2000 miles). best i saw was 20. 3 and the worst was 15. 5. But the 15. 5 was running 80 into a decent headwind.

i just made a trip across the pa turnpike from northeast ohio to cecil maryland pulling 5200#'s and got 19 mpg. probably would have gotten better but i was following friends that were pulling trailers with gas powered chevy's and they slowed way down going up the hills. i could have set the cruise at 70 and it would never downshift or slow down.

took a trip to nag head sc a few months ago and got almost 24mpg. with just the bed of the truck loaded and running 75-80. my brother inlaw has a duramax and i got better milage than him!!

once you tow with a diesel you'll NEVER tow with a gas again!!!! :D

wow

Here I was thinking I was getting good mileage. Reading these posts, mine blows. I wonder what is wrong ( I was idling for about 20-30 minutes in a traffic jam in Columbus, Oh but I doubt that would have accounted for more that . 5 mpg. Ndurbin, were you pulling anything with those figures?

Piersol: Nope I wasn't pulling anything. I usually get right around 10 mpg at 65 mph when towing.

painekiller: what year is your truck and how is set-up? stock or some mods?

I have a 95 , 3. 54 gears, 4x4, auto that is stock and it has 215 injectors, #10 tst plate all of the way forward along with the afc housing, 3 k governor kit, 17 degrees timing, and a large aircleaner. I have never gotten over 19. 5 until I installed the 215 injectors and replaced the #6 with the #10 plate. On at trip to Nashville to Knoxville I drove 70 to 80 up hill and down and got 21. That was both ways and down to Tunica Mississippi, and over to Shreveport. Some times a little better. I filled the truck up each time to make sure. I normally dont drive that fast but my back and other parts hurt after a few hours so I lost my concern for mileage . The 215 injectors and #10 fuel plate along with the 3k governor kit made passing very easy up hill and had no problem. That is all the stock transmission can take as far as I am concerned. I have no wont for more power just a way to get it to the ground an tow a trailer normally. Jim K

99 QC LB 4x2 with 4. 10 gears. only mods are edge ez and afe.

i made a trip to Alabama pulling about 8k #'s and got around 17mpg but that was before the afe so i think the afe increased my milage and performance. :D

i ran from houston to detroit averaging 21mpg there and back at a steady 70 w/1000 plus lbs in the bed. i am pretty sure now that i have the 275's that its even better by 1 or two mpg "in the city". this guy that works with me has a ford ranger with a v6 and he was complaining about 16mpg on the freeway drive to and from work. he says "its not like im blowing people away like you are, at least then i would have an excuse for the crappy mpg"... ... he wasnt very happy when i told him what i got. its a trip hearing all these people say "what do you get with that thing 6 or 7 mpg?"
