2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Fuel mileage

Has anyone experienced a recent drop in fuel mileage with no obvious reason? Went from 20 to 17& 18. I am a first time owner of a 2000, 24 valve 4x4 quad cab. Lost 2 miles per gallon on the highway in the past 2 months and yes the lift pump is fine, its new but had it checked anyway. Friends with a 96 and a 97 and a diesel mercedes have all lost about the same amount of fuel mileage recently. Is it the fuel we are getting now??? Thanks guys for any help you can be.
